Chili Cook-Off: Get Involved at Anderson

First Church Communications

Our annual Chili Cook-Off raises awareness, support, and invites you to get involved!

The Annual Chili Cook-Off is more than a fun Sunday gathering—it’s a meaningful way our church comes together to support students and families in the Anderson community. Each year, we share fellowship, sample homemade chili, and cast votes for our favorites, all while raising funds that help provide groceries, uniforms, coats, and other essential needs for Anderson Elementary families. Just as important, the Cook-Off invites our congregation into deeper relationship and involvement, strengthening a partnership built on presence, consistency, and care.

Serving the community at Anderson Elementary

At Anderson Elementary, small, consistent acts of care make a lasting difference. Whether it’s spending one lunch period a week with a student or helping after school, volunteers play a vital role in helping children feel seen, supported, and encouraged.

Lunch Buddies is a simple and meaningful way to serve. Volunteers commit to one lunch period a week to eat with a student, read together, talk about their day, or just listen. These relationships help build confidence and provide the steady, positive presence many students need.

After school, students can also participate in Masterwork Academy, where they explore art, music, dance, theater, Bible study, and fitness. Volunteers are welcome to serve one or more afternoons a week—no teaching or artistic experience required. What matters most is a willingness to show up, encourage, and care.

For those unable to commit weekly, Community Nights offer a monthly opportunity to serve by helping host family-friendly evenings with food, games, and connection.

These programs are built on relationships and presence. Volunteers are not expected to be parents or teachers—simply caring adults reflecting Christ’s love through consistency, encouragement, and time.
