As the Father has sent me, so I send you.
John 20:21
The Bible tells us we encounter God in several specific ways. The first is through worship "where two or three are gathered” (Matthew 18:20). The second is through service, when we serve “the least of these” (Matthew 25:45). The third is through evangelism, when we go out to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:20). In worship, we use words to proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord, but in service we use our actions. Christians often refer to this calling as our mission. We invite you to join us as we go deeper in relationship with Jesus Christ and follow His example as we serve and love the hurting and the lost.
The power of serving together
“Mission” comes in many different forms, but there is something particularly powerful about serving alongside fellow believers in a church community. First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa was built more than a century ago upon a foundation of mission, serving as a place of worship and education for Creek Indians from the Wealaka Mission. Since then, men and women from all walks of life have heeded the call to love, serve, and build lasting relationships with other communities both in Tulsa and around the world.
Serve the Church
God calls us to serve our brothers and sisters in Christ right here in the church. There are multiple ways to love and serve our congregation's sick or elderly, and all are invited to help serve in worship on Sundays through music or hospitality ministries.
Serve the city
First Presbyterian Church members actively serve through several unique mission initiatives. These programs support the physical, educational or spiritual needs around our city; and they provide opportunities to make real one-on-one connections in the name of Christ. Wherever you live or work, you are in the perfect place to serve, and there is no better time than now. Where is God calling you?
Serve the world
Whether down the road in Dallas, Texas, or across the ocean in Kenya, Africa, there are billions of people around the world who are desperate for the Gospel message of hope and love. At First Presbyterian Church, we embark on these adventures with open hearts and minds, often to discover that in doing so, our own lives are enriched in ways we could have never imagined. We hope you will prayerfully consider any of our global mission opportunities. Even right here on the “home front,” you can offer invaluable prayer and support.
