Holy Week Prayer Vigil

2021 Registration

2021 Prayer Vigil Packet

First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa

Thursday, April 1, 9 p.m. through Easter Sunday, April 4, 7 a.m.

Why has the Prayer Vigil become a Holy Week tradition at First Church?

For many members of our congregation, participating in the annual Prayer Vigil has become a significant part of their Holy Week tradition.

These vigil participants—individuals, couples, and families--have discovered the Holy Week Prayer Vigil is an excellent opportunity to prepare for a joyful and meaningful Easter experience.

FPC members look forward to being linked together in prayer with other members of the congregation as part of the annual 58-hour prayer chain. They are also blessed when they spend 30 minutes of quiet time in the presence of the Lord.

When is the Prayer Vigil?

The Prayer Vigil is a continuous chain of prayer that begins on Maundy Thursday (9:00 p.m., April 1), and continues around-the-clock until sunrise on Easter Sunday (7:00 a.m., April 4).

How long do I pray? Where do I pray?

The Vigil includes 116 30-minute prayer periods. Participants may pray during their designated 30-minute period at home or any place they feel comfortable.

Can I select more than one prayer period?

Yes, one or more available 30-minute prayer periods can be selected. However, each prayer period is designed for only one person/couple/family. Please do not attempt to register for a prayer period that has already been selected.

How can I register for the Prayer Vigil?

In-person registration to participate in the Prayer Vigil will not be available this year. Registration will only be available online, beginning Tuesday, March 16. Register online by clicking the “Holy Week Prayer Vigil 2021 Registration” link at the top of this page, which goes “live” on March 16. Additional names can be entered on the registration form when family members or friends want to pray together during a specific 30-minute prayer period.

How can I participate if I can’t register online?

Every FPC member is encouraged to participate in the Prayer Vigil. Anyone who is unable to register online should contact Mark or Paula Peterson for assistance. (See below for specific contact information.)

What is included in the Prayer Packet?

A Prayer Packet is available for every registrant. The packet includes valuable information regarding prayer, plus specific suggestions for making the 30-minute prayer period a spiritually-rewarding experience. New and updated information is included in the packet every year. The two-page “Prayers for First Church” is updated before every Prayer Vigil so that participants may include specific individuals and FPC programs in their prayers.

Where can I obtain a Prayer Packet?

Prayer Packets can be viewed and/or downloaded by clicking this link: 2021 Prayer Vigil Packet.” Individuals who are unable to obtain a Prayer Packet online may contact the Petersons to make special arrangements to receive one. (See below for specific contact information.)
