Works of HeART

Sponsored by First Church, the Works of HeART studio began at Tulsa’s Day Center for the Homeless in 2009. Every Monday morning, clients are invited to participate in the relaxed environment of creating art, enjoying coffee, listening to music, and conversing and encouraging each other as artists.

Artistic opportunities of drawing, painting, sculpting, jewelry and a variety of other projects promote feelings of accomplishment and self-worth, a welcomed escape from their present circumstances.

About a dozen attend the open studio each week serving more than 500 participants annually. Many of the artists have exhibited their artwork in art shows and gallery exhibits; and have participated in field trips to Gilcrease and Philbrook to expand their artistic development.

The Works of HeART program has received a President’s Volunteer Award, been named a Change Agent in Tulsa, and was honored with the 2020 Heart of Henry Volunteer Award.
