Greeters

Our greeters are at each church entrance every Sunday morning, directing their focus on making members and especially visitors, feel the welcome of Jesus Christ as they come to worship at First Church.

Guild of Intercessors

James 5:16 says "...pray for one another that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." (NIV)

The Guild consists of more than 70 men and women who are dedicated to daily prayer for anyone who needs God's intervention. Members of the group pray privately in their own homes. In addition to sending prayer requests via email, individuals may also submit requests to the Guild by completing the Prayer Request cards that are available in the pew racks of the sanctuary, in the literature rack of the Chapel, and in the Fellowship Pads in the Bernsen Center. The requests are compiled and sent to members each week. Urgent requests are relayed to Guild members via a telephone chain. Information included in prayer requests is treated confidentially. Pray-ers

If you’re a member of First Church, you are likely being held before God in prayer…every single day.

Currently, more than 100 members of this congregation have claimed a ministry through a quiet organization within the church called the Pray-ers.

Begun 30 years ago, this intercessory prayer ministry seeks to touch the lives of every First Church member.

This group differs from the Guild of Intercessors in that the Guild members pray for the health concerns and other needs of our church families and friends, as well as for members of the congregation who have special, and sometimes urgent, prayer requests. Meanwhile, each Pray-er is praying for 8 church families, day in and day out, whether or not their special needs are even known.

Early in the year each Pray-er receives a new set of names, and the loving and caring continues. The annual commitment insures a renewal within the church that begins as we each vow to undergird and nurture the church’s own members in the best way we know: through prayer.

The effort moves our focus from ourselves toward people we may not even know, and continually broadens our concept of who the church is.
