Helping Hands, Jail/Prison Ministry/Meals on Wheels

Helping Hands

Would You Like To "Tend Some Lambs?"   Why not offer three hours one morning a week in First Church's Helping Hand Ministry?

Across the street in the Bernsen Center, this most remarkable ministry offers special assistance to those in need. Every morning from 9:00 a.m. till noon, men and women from First Church assist in the payment of utilities, rent, prescriptions, and distribution of food from our pantry.  Volunteers are assigned to serve as one of the following: Computer clerk, Interviewer, Counselor, and Pantry Clerk.  It is our hope that every volunteer would eventually become competent in each assignment.

Helping Hands is a fantastic ministry and the rewards are great--not just to the clients, but to each and every person involved with the ministry.  If you are interested in "tending the lambs" in this particular way, call the church office at 584.4701 for more information!

Meals on Wheels

Meals-on-Wheels continues to be a strong and vital mission program of First Presbyterian Church.  A program begun at First Presbyterian Church in 1970 has now grown to encompass all of Tulsa and several neighboring towns.  The City is divided into 13 components.  First Presbyterian Church is one of those components and delivers meals to homebound and disabled persons living in the downtown area surrounding the church.  Meals are prepared at a central location and      brought to First Presbyterian Church where they are dished up and dispatched by our own kitchen staff.

At least 18 volunteer drivers are needed each week to deliver 70-75 meals to 45-50 recipients.  Some of the volunteer drivers deliver meals  on the same route each week - others twice a month, others once a month, still others substitute drive  on call.

If you are interested in helping with Meals on Wheels, please contact Dionna Schooley at 584.4701.

The Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) is the oldest and largest organization in the United States representing those who provide meal services to people in need.

MOWAA works toward the social, physical, nutritional, and economic betterment of vulnerable Americans.  The Meals On Wheels Association of America provides the tools and information its programs need to make a difference in the lives of others.  It also gives cash grants to local senior meal programs throughout the country to assist in providing meals and other nutrition services.
