Annual Men’s Retreat

The FPC Mens Ministry Fall retreat is scheduled for November 21-22 at Tulsa’s Post Oak Lodge.  The Retreat will begin at 7:00p on Friday night and conclude about 5:00 on Saturday.  Dress is casual and comfortable.

The Post Oak Lodge is a first class facility located about 20 minutes from downtown Tulsa.  More information is available at their website: www.postoaklodge.com

The theme of this year’s Fall Retreat is “24 Hours in the Mind of Jesus”.  We will be using Philippians 2:5-13 to explore what Jesus has to say to men about how to manage the balancing act between being strong yet humble, leading through serving, loving others, and working out our relationship with the Master.

Retreat discussion sessions will be lead by both pastors and lay leaders from FPC.  Our goals are to be informed by learning both from the Bible and from the life experiences of other men.  We can promise you that lively conversations will be springing up around the discussion tables.

The Fall Retreat is an excellent opportunity for the men of First Presbyterian Church to get to know each other better, make new friends, and study what the Bible has to say about how men can be guided in facing the challenges and choices of their lives.

The Fall Retreat won’t take much of your time but it will enrich your life and your faith.  Be sure to get your reservation in early!

Watch for additional news on the growing activities of the FPC Mens’ Ministries including:  Hawaiian/Flannel Shirt Night, the Breakfast Connection, First Response Team, Prayer Request Line, and the annual Golf Tournament.  Additional events and activities are being planned for 2009.

For more information please contact Edward Jednacz (671-7460), Larry Wagner (260-3405), Bruce Lemmon (582-8904), or Bill Wiles (607-2309).

Women’s Ministries

First Church’s Women’s Ministry helps women connect in meaningful relationships, grow and nurture their faith, serve within the church and beyond, and make a difference to unchurched women by inviting them to follow Christ.

We invite you to find a place to connect and grow.

Presbyterian Women

Long the backbone of mission at First Church, the women of First church are organized into 7 circles (small groups) and relate to the national Presbyterian Women organization of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).  PW is committed to nurturing faith through “Horizons” Bible study and prayer, supporting the church's mission, working for justice, and building community.
At First Church, Presbyterian Women begin another year of study and service in September. If you are not currently a member of Presbyterian Women, please consider becoming involved in one or more of the following services:

Women’s Bible Studies

Moms on Monday—Moms of young children gather at 10 a.m. in the Miller Library for Bible study, discussion, and lively talk.  They serve one another when needs arise, serve those outside the group . . . and love to eat together!  For more information, call Summer Jenkins (481-1640) or Shannon Bair (745-8097).

Marys and Marthas—Women journeying through mid-life together enjoy weekly Bible study and prayer at 10:00 every Wednesday in the 4th-floor Tower Room.  We’re currently studying Exodus.  We also enjoy a couple of brunches every year and serve the larger church in different ways.  Call Monte Prater (446-6418) to find out more.

Hearts for the Lord—Women of every age from First Church and the larger community attend this weekly gathering on Thursdays at         in the Bernsen Building Reception Room.  Its focus is not only Bible study, but relationships that knit the group together in Christian love.  We’re currently studying Beth Moore’s Believing God.  Find out more by calling Janet Bull (744-6822).

Year-round Small Groups

We have a few small groups of women that meet year-round on evenings and weekends.  If you would like to know more or are interested in joining or starting a new small group please contact Courtney Manring at the church (CManring@firstchurchtulsa.org, 764-9115).

Summer Book Club

What fun the (Perpetual) Summer Book Club has discussing popular fiction and non-fiction every month!  Monte Prater is our leader, but others usually pitch in to facilitate discussions on some of their favorite books.  We meet at noon on the first Wednesday of every month, and most of us bring a sack lunch.  It’s a great way to get to know some other First Church women.  Call Monte (446-6418) for details.
